Fitting visits
What a fitting visit is, step by step
A fitting is a series of visits, not one. The first measures, the next two or three adjust, and the later ones keep the fit healthy. Dr. Kovalenko is in the room for every one.
Measurement visit: about 90 minutes
Pickup and handling lesson: about 45 minutes
Follow-up checks: about 30 minutes each

The steps
From first visit to lenses you wear all day
- 01
Step 1: 1. Records
Your doctor sends your records, or you bring them.
Your current glasses or lenses
Notes from any recent eye visit
- 02
Step 2: 2. Measurements
We map the front of each eye, check eye health and try the first lenses.
About 90 minutes
Your eyes may be dilated, so bring sunglasses
- 03
Step 3: 3. Trial lenses
We watch how each lens sits, moves and feels, and change it the same day where we can.
Wear the trial lenses in your own day
Write down what feels off
- 04
Step 4: 4. Pickup
Custom lenses arrive and you learn to insert, remove and clean them.
Arrives in a week or two
Bring someone if you'd like a second pair of eyes
- 05
Step 5: 5. Follow-up
Checks at about a week, a month and three months, then every six to twelve.
Each check is followed by a letter to your doctor
Before you come
What to bring, and who you'll see
What to bring
Your referral or records, your current glasses and lenses with their cases, a list of your medicines and your insurance cards.
Who you'll see
Dr. Taras Kovalenko, Doctor of Optometry, with an ophthalmic assistant taking measurements.
How it's billed
Visits go to a vision plan, medical insurance or you, as How fees work explains.
How fees work
Results vary
How long a fit takes, how well a lens works and how long you can wear it vary from person to person. Dr. Kovalenko explains the risks of lens wear, including eye infection, before you start, and tells you early if lenses aren't the right answer.
Questions
Fitting questions
Can I drive home after the first visit?
If your eyes are dilated, vision may be blurry and light may bother you for a few hours. Bring sunglasses and, if you can, someone to drive.
What if a lens feels wrong?
Call the office the same day. Don't wait for the next scheduled check. If your eye is red, painful or sensitive to light, take the lens out and call us, or go to an emergency room.
Book your measurement visit
Tell us who referred you, and the office will ask them for your records.
