Questions patients and doctors ask first
Do I need a referral?
Most patients come to us on one, and your own eye doctor can send it with your records. If you don't have one, call us. We'll ask for your eye doctor's name so we can write to them after your visit.
Will I still see my own eye doctor?
Yes. We fit lenses and check how your eyes handle them. Your own doctor keeps your routine exams and any care for eye disease.
How long is the first visit?
About 90 minutes. Later checks are about 30 minutes.
What do I bring?
Your referral or records, your glasses and lenses with their cases, a list of your medicines and your insurance cards.
Do you work with my vision plan?
We work with many vision plans and with medical insurance. Call to confirm yours. How fees work explains which visits each one pays.
Why was part of my visit billed to medical insurance?
A visit for a corneal condition or its follow-up is medical care, so it goes to medical insurance. A routine exam may go to a vision plan.
Can I fill my prescription elsewhere?
Yes. Your prescription is yours. We give you a copy after your exam and fitting, and you can fill it anywhere.
Can I have my contact lens prescription?
Yes. We give it to you after the fitting and the checks that show the lenses work, and we tell you when it expires.
How much will it cost?
It depends on your plan and the lenses your eyes need. How fees work explains how we tell you before you pay.
What should I do in an eye emergency?
Call the office right away or go to an emergency room. Sudden vision loss, flashes of light, a curtain over your vision, a chemical splash or an eye injury needs care now. If you can't reach us, call 911.
